2002 Andrea Doria Photos V

These are pictures from the 2002 Seeker 2-day expedition to the Andrea Doria, approximately 107 miles off Montauk, New York, under 250 feet of water in the North Atlantic, which took place on July 13-14, 2002.

For more information on the Andrea Doria, the Grand Dame of the Sea, check out the New Jersey Scuba Diving Andrea Doria Page and the Seeker's Andrea Doria page.  There also two good books out about diving the Andrea Doria.  The first is Andrea Doria: Dive To An Era by Gary Gentile (1989), and the second is Deep Descent: Adventure and Death Diving the Andrea Doria by Kevin McMurray (2001).

Continued from Page IV....

A close-up of the sink, which is actually in the 3rd class women's restroom behind the gift shop.
John looks for souvenirs.
Winding our way up, out and forward, we come out onto the 2nd class promenade.  Looking up through the promenade windows, we see the grapnel.
At the end of the dive, looking back one more time at the huge crack that is forming.  Will the stern break off completely, as the bow is doing?
Looking back at the Grand Dame on the way back up the anchor line we see rows of intact portholes.
Bill Cleary is happy with his find of an unopened bottle of Italian liqueur, and a brass sign with Italian writing.  Unfortunately, no one on board (not even Ferrali, Trapani, Gianni, Scarpa, etc.) could read Italian, so we didn't know what it said!  On the left, our own Tom Mount look-alike, Lee Livingston, secures his gear for the long trip home.
The brass lamp crew shows off the artifact du jour of this trip - brass lamps!  Gene Holmes, myself, and Doc Gianni.
Mikey "Mighty Mouse" Trapani gears up to go pull the hook at the end of our trip.
On the long ride back, George Place ties John Chatterton's feet together and secures them to his bunk with duck tape while he sleeps soundly like a baby.

I hope you have enjoyed these 2002 Andrea Doria pictures as much as I enjoyed doing the real thing!

These 2002 Andrea Doria pages are dedicated to the memory of Will Smithers, an inspiration to all who knew him for living life to the fullest and making every moment count.  Carpe diem!
