2002 Andrea Doria Photos IV

These are pictures from the 2002 Seeker 2-day expedition to the Andrea Doria, approximately 107 miles off Montauk, New York, under 250 feet of water in the North Atlantic, which took place on July 13-14, 2002.

For more information on the Andrea Doria, the Grand Dame of the Sea, check out the New Jersey Scuba Diving Andrea Doria Page and the Seeker's Andrea Doria page.  There also two good books out about diving the Andrea Doria.  The first is Andrea Doria: Dive To An Era by Gary Gentile (1989), and the second is Deep Descent: Adventure and Death Diving the Andrea Doria by Kevin McMurray (2001).

The wreath is placed out over the wreck.
George Place and Doc Gianni show off their finds of a silver sherbet goblet and a square porcelain dish.
George swam a long ways forward on the wreck to a favorite spot where he found the goblet.  Doc thinks the dish, painted with an Italian mountain scene, most likely came out of the gift shop.
On the next dive (Sunday), John Chatterton looks for a cool spot to explore.  The current was really ripping during this dive, so it was best to head into the wreck right away for cover.
John finds a place he wants to explore.
He heads down into the 3rd class winter garden.
Heading forward inside the 3rd class area.
Looking ahead at some fixtures.  This area is actually where a small gift shop used to be.
A closer look reveals a hanging lamp on the left and a sink on the right.
