Steve Lovas explores near the tie-in point. The mooring line is behind him.
A davit on the Andrea Doria. There are many old lines on the wreck, of which divers must be careful.
Chuck Hatcher explores the Andrea Doria.
Swimming forward towards the bow. The promenade deck is on the left, the boat deck is on the right.
This is an image of the famous Gimbel's Hole. It is a large, rectangular cut in the hull leading into the 1st Class Foyer (foyer deck). Those who have dove the wreck in previous years know that it was flat on the top (port side). Now it tilts at almost a 45 degree angle inward, and is evidence of how the wreck is collapsing. Anyone that has explored inside Gimbel's this year has noticed even more dramatic changes -- the bathtub near the entrance and entire shaft it was sitting on are completely gone. A large double stairwell near a favorite china hole has also completely collapsed, and some passageways are no longer passable. I wish I had taken my camcorder with me when I explored in here to document these changes from last year, but hindsight is always 20/20!
A square window near the bow.
This is looking up at the large bridgewing on the bow.
Another image of the boat deck.
