The SS Carolina was a 380 foot long passenger liner sunk in WWI by the U-151 on "Black Sunday", June 2, 1918, along with five other ships, including the freighter Texel and collier Winneconne.  The wreck was discovered and dived in 1995 after extensive research by John Chatterton and John Yurga.  The Carolina lies in 250 feet of water approximately 65 miles east of Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The following pictures (all images from video) are from the voyage of the Depth Charge to the SS Carolina, Sunday, September 3, 2001 (continued from Page III).

Mikey Trapani does his hang.
But wait..... we get out of the water and lo and behold, the Depth Charge's sister ship, the Independence, has arrived!
Ever the one to cause mischief, Billy pulls Independence until it crashes into the Depth Charge.  ;-)
Rick Atkins shows off a nice, small dish that he retrieved.  This was his first dive on this wreck.
John Chatterton returns from his dive.
Here is his brand new Abyss Explorer trimix computer, with water sloshing around inside the screen.
He also got this beautiful, clamshell-shaped dish, a kind of which no one has seen come off this wreck before!
A closer look at his unique dish.
The Depth Charge leaves the scene while the Independence pulls up to the mooring.

Petey (red drysuit) gets undressed after being the last guy out of the water, as we leave the wreck site.

John proudly shows off a new chair that he found floating by in the water.  It's been a great weekend out on the SS Carolina, everyone's up again for the following weekend!
